Step It Up Dance Academy was founded in 2020 during South Africa’s lockdown, beginning with small online “Mommy & Me” Dance classes. What started as a way to keep little dancers moving soon grew into something much bigger. Our first in-person studio opened in Stonehurst Mountain Estate, and today we have four studio locations: Stonehurst Mountain Estate, Claremont, Kirstenhof, and Little Mowbray.

The founder of Step It Up, Kate Millar, brings more than 13 years of teaching experience and a deep love for creating a space where children feel supported, confident, and seen. Kate’s goal is to have a studio where both students and parents feel part of a community.
We believe dance should be supportive, inclusive, and fun and those words have become our motto.

Every child who walks through our doors is encouraged to grow at their own pace, whether they dream of performing on stage or simply want to dance recreationally. All students have the opportunity to perform in some way, no matter their level or background. Our classes are energetic, positive, and created to enhance your child’s dance experience. We use a mix of classical and more modern music to keep them inspired and engaged, and our teachers create an environment where learning feels exciting. Because what is dancing if it isn’t enjoyed?
